The mission of the Polk County Department of Social Services is to provide public assistance to low income citizens of Polk County. The Agency administers the Food and Nutrition Services Program, Medicaid for Families and Children, Medicaid for Aged and Disabled Programs, and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families Program. The department also investigates suspected/reported abuse, neglect or abandonment of children, and abuse, neglect or exploitation of aged or disabled adults, provides Foster Care and Adoption Services to children and families, offers assistance to elderly and disabled at home and in out of home placements, administers various programs of emergency assistance to families and individuals in crisis and referral services to local, state and federal resources.
